Charley Crockett has recently taken a break from releasing records, with a 16-month gap since his last one. While this may seem short compared to other artists' album release cycles, it is significant for Crockett, who has managed to release an impressive nine records between 2018 and 2022, spanning over five years.
The long wait for Cowboy Crockett's upcoming album, titled $10, is just one of the reasons why it is highly anticipated. According to Crockett, the album is a heartfelt tribute to his homeland, conveying a sense of exploration and wanderlust.
The author mentioned that they have written this material in various locations such as truck stops, casinos, alleys behind venues, and even in their own truck parked on South Congress in Austin. They believe that being a wanderer like themselves, a true transient, puts them in a great position to offer insights and opinions about America.
Crockett has consistently explored the theme of America in his work. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, he revealed that his song "Music City, U.S.A." also touches on the subject of the United States.
Collaborating with Billy Horton, Crockett has penned the title track for his album " $10 Cowboy". The song showcases Crockett's signature style of gritty and authentic portrayal of the working class. Crockett and his band are set to perform the song for the first time on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Monday night.
According to Crockett, being on the road allows you to witness firsthand how different Americans perceive themselves as struggling in some way. This includes individuals like the oil and gas field workers in West Texas, single mothers raising children alone, and young men who feel they have no other options but to work on the streets. Crockett acknowledges that he can see a common thread among these individuals – they all feel invisible. He is particularly struck by the internal battles they are fighting and how they have become trapped by society's perception of them.
