Charley Crockett has not released a new record in over a year. This may seem like a short time compared to other artists' album release cycles, but for Crockett, it is a significant break. In the span of five years, from 2018 to 2022, the Texas singer-songwriter released an impressive nine records.
$10 Cowboy, the upcoming album by Crockett, is highly anticipated for several reasons, one of which is the long wait leading up to its release. Crockett expressed in a statement that the album serves as a heartfelt homage to his homeland, reflecting his wanderings and experiences.
He expressed that this material is written in various places such as truck stops, casinos, and alleys near venues. He also mentioned that he writes in his truck parked on South Congress in Austin. Being a wanderer, he believes that he is in a favorable position to share his thoughts on America.
Crockett has a long-standing interest in America, and he mentioned in an interview with Rolling Stone in 2021 that his song "Music City, U.S.A." also touches on the subject of the United States.
Collaborating with Billy Horton, Crockett has created the lead song for his album " $10 Cowboy", which embodies his signature style of gritty and authentic working-class storytelling. Crockett and his band are set to perform the song for the first time on the television show Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Monday evening.
According to Crockett, being on the road allows you to personally witness how different types of Americans perceive themselves as going through significant struggles. This includes the tough individuals working in the oil and gas fields in West Texas, the single mothers raising their children alone, and the young men who feel forced to work on the streets because they believe it's their only option. Crockett admits that he can see a common thread among them all – they all feel invisible. He is deeply affected by the internal battles they are fighting and how they have been trapped by the societal expectations imposed on them by America.
