  • by

Dolly Parton is interested in holding a lookalike contest because she is searching for someone who closely resembles her, regardless of which period of her career they resemble, to potentially cast them in a Broadway musical based on her life.

It is true that Parton is currently working on converting her life story into a musical, as she shared with People.

For a long time, she has had a significant goal of performing and debuting her show on Broadway. It is something she strongly desires to accomplish while she is alive and able to actively participate in it.

In this manner, she will have the opportunity to make artistic choices, such as the unconventional decision to allow individuals from various backgrounds to audition for the role of Dolly, rather than restricting it to only those with extensive musical theater background.

Parton suggests that she could potentially lead a contest called "Finding Dolly," where they would conduct a widespread talent search to find actors to portray three different versions of the main character. These versions would include a younger Dolly, Dolly in her earlier years, and an older Dolly, as specified by the singer.

Parton states that they will be conducting auditions and searching for talented individuals using various methods. She believes that this process will be enjoyable for people as well. Parton emphasizes the element of surprise in finding these individuals, as they could be completely new to performing or have had some experience in local theater. Nonetheless, the search for these talents is expected to be an exciting and enjoyable endeavor.

Dolly Parton has previously mentioned the possibility of a musical based on her life in various interviews. She expressed her desire to see the show come to life by "late '25," as revealed in her recent conversation with People magazine.
