Eric Church and Morgan Wallen Acquire Field & Stream Magazine: A New Venture in Publishing and the Outdoors

  • by

Eric Church and Morgan Wallen have taken on a new role as owners of 'Field & Stream' Magazine.

Eric Church and Morgan Wallen have entered the publishing industry by acquiring Field & Stream magazine. They intend to revive the brand as a print magazine, website, and apparel company. Additionally, they have plans to organize a live music festival. This move can be seen as a step towards diversifying their business ventures beyond their music careers.

The "Field & Stream 1871 Club" offers different subscription tiers, ranging from $15 to $95 per year. Each tier provides online access to new articles about hunting, fishing, and the outdoors, as well as access to the F&S archives. Subscribers who choose the top two tiers will also receive a print magazine from Field & Stream, which is published twice a year in an 11 x 14 format. Additionally, members will have access to exclusive accessories, such as bandannas and hats, and will get early access to attend live events and purchase products. This includes the opportunity to buy tickets to a music festival, which is likely to feature the new owners as headliners.

Church and Wallen have teamed up with a group of investors to acquire the Field & Stream retail brand from Dick's Sporting Goods and the media component from Recurrent, a digital media company.

In a statement, Church expressed how he fondly remembers his grandfather's habit of keeping some cherished Field & Stream magazines on the dashboard of his truck. These magazines held great significance for Church and served as his guiding source of inspiration. He considers it a tremendous honor to ensure that this legacy continues to thrive. Church sees it as his duty to uphold the values and traditions associated with an iconic American institution, as well as to provide the same sense of wonder and discovery to a young boy sitting in his grandfather's truck. This responsibility will serve as a compass, guiding their actions and decisions.

"I absolutely love spending time with friends in various outdoor settings, such as sitting around a campfire, being on a boat, or hunting in a deer stand. Field & Stream holds a special place in my heart as it encompasses all of these experiences. It's truly amazing to be a part of its future and our goal is to continue bringing people together in the great outdoors, creating lasting memories for generations to come."

The media industry has faced a difficult couple of weeks with layoffs at Pitchfork, Sports Illustrated, and the Los Angeles Times. In a press release announcing the relaunch of Field & Stream, it was emphasized that Colin Kearns, the magazine's editor-in-chief since 2016, will continue in his role with his editorial team. The brand will now be led by Doug McNamee, the former president of Chip and Joanna Gaines' Magnolia brand.
