Finding Dolly: Why Dolly Parton Wants to Hold a Lookalike Contest for Her Broadway Musical

  • by

Dolly Parton is interested in organizing a lookalike contest for a specific reason. If you happen to look very similar to Dolly Parton, regardless of which time period of her career you resemble, she may consider selecting you to be a part of a Broadway production that tells her life story.

Yes, it is true. Parton is currently working on turning her life story into a musical, as she informed People magazine.

She expresses that going to Broadway and debuting her own show has been a significant goal for her for a long time. She wants to ensure that she accomplishes this goal while she is still alive and able to actively participate in it.

In this manner, she will have the opportunity to exercise her creativity by making unique decisions, such as the unconventional choice of allowing people from various backgrounds to audition for the role of Dolly, regardless of their prior experience in musical theater.

Parton suggests that she might oversee a contest called "Finding Dolly" where they will conduct a wide talent search to cast three different versions of the main character. These versions would include a younger Dolly, a Dolly from her earlier years, and an older Dolly, as clarified by the singer.

"We will be holding auditions and searching for talented individuals using various methods. I believe this process will also be enjoyable for people," Parton adds. "You never know where we might discover them. They could be individuals who have never performed on stage before or those who have been involved in local theater. Our search for these individuals will be an exciting part of the process, in my opinion."

Parton has mentioned the possibility of a musical about her life before, albeit in scattered interviews. She expressed her desire to have the show ready by "late '25," as revealed in her recent discussion with People magazine.

Dolly Parton, the iconic country singer, has many career dreams that she is still striving to achieve. In an interview with Taste of Country last January, Parton disclosed her desire to establish her own television network in the near future.
