Surveillance Video Contradicts Officer’s Assault Claims in Chris Young Arrest

  • by

The arrest of Chris Young is being called into question as surveillance video contradicts the officer's claims of assault.

The surveillance footage from the night Chris Young was arrested at a bar in Nashville seems to dispute the allegations made by a Tennessee Alcoholic Beverage Commission agent that the country singer assaulted the officer during the incident on Monday night.

Two surveillance videos were shared on Facebook by Nick Beres, a reporter from Nashville's Newschannel 5. In the videos, Young, who is wearing a leather jacket, can be seen calmly approaching the undercover TABC agents. He lightly touches one of the agents on the arm. In response, the agent pushes Young forcefully, causing him to fall over a bar stool at the Dawg House bar.

Following the incident, Young was accused of disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and assaulting an officer. However, the video footage does not capture Young's actual arrest or whether he resisted. The agent stated in the arrest affidavit, which was obtained by Rolling Stone, that Young blocked the agents from leaving Dawg House and physically prevented the agent from leaving the bar by placing his hands on the agent's shoulder. However, the video shows that this claim was exaggerated.

A Twitter user named Fongduck shared a video of Chris Young being arrested in a bar in Nashville on January 24, 2024. The video can be found using the link provided in the tweet.

Young is patiently waiting for an opportunity to inquire with the men about why they took a picture of his identification. He tries to approach one of the agents to have a conversation, but the agent forcefully pushes him, causing Young to fall to the ground. According to Young's lawyer, his only intention was to verify the identity of the men, who were not easily identifiable by their clothing, and question why they had photographed his ID.

After being pushed by the agent, Young retreats from the confrontation with his hands raised, as his colleagues and a few other customers gather around the agents.

Beres stated that according to the lawyer representing Young, it was conveyed that his client's experience at the Dawg House was unjust and he should not have been arrested. The lawyer further urged ABC to withdraw the charges against Young and offer an apology.

According to the affidavit, Young displayed signs of intoxication such as bloodshot and watery eyes, as well as slurred speech. He was arrested and later released from the Metro jail on Tuesday morning. Young's next court appearance for the charges is set for February 16.

Young's lawyer, Bill Ramsey, expressed his disagreement with the singer's arrest in a statement, deeming it unjust, and urged for the charges to be dismissed.

Ramsey believes that, based on the video evidence, the Tennessee ABC should drop the charges and issue an apology for the physical, emotional, and professional harm caused to his client.
