Country musician Charley Crockett is preparing to release his new album titled "$10 Cowboy," which he claims was written in unconventional locations such as truck stops, casinos, and alleys.
It has been a significant amount of time, 16 months to be exact, since Charley Crockett last put out a new album. While this might seem like a short time for most artists, it is quite unusual for Crockett. He managed to release an impressive total of nine records between 2018 and 2022, which is quite a productive output.
Crockett's upcoming album, titled $10 Cowboy, is highly awaited for several reasons, including the lengthy wait leading up to its release. In a statement, Crockett expressed that the album is a heartfelt homage to his homeland, reflecting his wandering journey throughout the country.
The author shares that they have written this material in various places such as truck stops, casinos, alleys near venues, and even in their truck parked on South Congress in Austin. They believe that being a wanderer like themselves gives them a unique perspective to share their thoughts about America.
Crockett has consistently explored the theme of America in his music. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, he revealed that his song "Music City, U.S.A." also touches on the subject of the United States.
Co-written by Billy Horton, the title track of Crockett's album "10 Dollar Cowboy" showcases his signature style of gritty and authentic storytelling that reflects the lives of the working class. Crockett and his band will be performing the song live for the first time on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Monday evening.
Crockett stated that being on the road allows you to personally witness how different types of Americans perceive themselves as going through significant struggles. This includes the roughneck working in the oil and gas fields in West Texas, the single mother raising children on her own, and the young man who feels he has no other choice but to work on the street corner. Crockett acknowledges that he can see a common thread among them all – they all feel invisible. He is deeply moved by the internal battles they are facing and how they have become trapped by society's perception of who they are.
