Dolly Parton is interested in organizing a lookalike contest for a specific reason. If you happen to strongly resemble Dolly Parton, regardless of the era of her career, she may consider casting you in a Broadway musical that revolves around her life.
Indeed, Parton is currently engaged in the process of transforming her life story into a musical, as she disclosed to People.
She expresses that performing on Broadway and having her own show debut there has always been a significant goal for her. This is something she has been determined to achieve for a long time. She wants to ensure that she accomplishes this goal while she is still alive and able to actively participate in it.
In this manner, she will have the opportunity to make artistic choices, such as the unconventional decision to allow anyone from diverse backgrounds to audition for the role of Dolly, regardless of their prior experience in musical theater.
Parton suggests that she could potentially lead a contest called "Finding Dolly," where a wide-ranging talent search would take place to find actors for three different versions of the main character. These versions would include a younger Dolly, a Dolly from earlier years, and an older Dolly, as clarified by the singer.
"We will be conducting auditions to discover talented individuals using various methods. I believe this will also be enjoyable for the audience," Parton explains. "The interesting part is that we cannot predict where we will find these individuals. They may have never performed on a stage before, or perhaps they have only been involved in small local productions. However, our search for them will be an exciting aspect of this process."
Parton has previously mentioned the possibility of creating a musical about her life in various interviews. She expressed her desire to have the show ready by "late '25," as stated in her recent discussion with People magazine.
