Dolly Parton’s Broadway Dream: Why She Wants to Hold a Lookalike Contest for Her Musical

  • by

Dolly Parton has expressed her interest in hosting a contest to find individuals who closely resemble her, regardless of the era of her career. The purpose of this contest is to potentially select someone to portray her in a Broadway musical that tells the story of her life.

Indeed, Parton is currently engaged in the process of transforming her life story into a musical, as she disclosed to People.

She expresses that going to Broadway and debuting her own show there has been a significant goal she has had for a long time. She emphasizes that this is the one goal she wants to ensure she achieves while she is still alive and able to actively participate in it.

In this manner, she will have the opportunity to exercise her artistic judgment, which includes the unconventional decision to allow individuals from various backgrounds to audition for the role of Dolly, rather than solely considering those with extensive experience in musical theater.

Parton has mentioned the possibility of leading a competition called "Finding Dolly," where they would conduct a wide-ranging search to find actors for three different versions of the main character. These versions would include a younger Dolly, an earlier stage of her life, and an older Dolly.

"We will be conducting auditions and searching for these individuals using various methods. I believe this process will also be enjoyable for people," says Parton. "One never knows where we will discover them. They might have never performed on stage before or perhaps have only been involved in local theater. Nonetheless, we are determined to seek them out, and I believe this aspect will add to the excitement."

Parton has mentioned the possibility of a musical about her life on several occasions in previous interviews. She expressed her desire to have the show ready by "late '25," as mentioned in her recent conversation with People magazine.

The country music icon has multiple career aspirations that she is actively pursuing. In an interview with Taste of Country last January, Parton disclosed her desire to establish her very own television network in the near future.
