Dolly Parton’s Broadway Dream: Why She Wants to Hold a Lookalike Contest for Her Musical

  • by

Dolly Parton has expressed her desire to organize a lookalike contest for a specific reason. Anyone who closely resembles Dolly Parton, regardless of the time period of her career, has the chance to be selected for a role in a Broadway production based on her life.

Indeed, Parton has recently disclosed to People magazine that she is currently engaged in the process of transforming her life story into a musical.

She expresses that going to Broadway and premiering her own show there has always been a significant goal for her. She wants to ensure that she accomplishes this goal while she is still alive and actively participating in the theater industry.

In this manner, she will have the opportunity to make artistic choices, including the unconventional decision to invite individuals from diverse backgrounds to audition for the role of Dolly. This casting call is not limited to individuals with extensive experience in musical theater.

Parton reveals that she could potentially lead a competition called "Finding Dolly," where a wide-ranging talent search would be conducted to find actors for three different versions of the main character. These versions would include a young Dolly, a Dolly from earlier years, and an older Dolly, as explained by the singer.

"We will be conducting auditions and searching for them using various methods. I believe this will also be enjoyable for people," Parton explains. "You never know where you will discover them. They might have never performed on stage before, or maybe they have only been involved in local theater productions. However, we are determined to find them, and I believe that will add to the excitement."

Parton has mentioned the idea of a musical based on her life before, although not for the first time. In a recent interview with People, the singer expressed her desire to have the show ready by "late '25."

The country icon has several career aspirations that she is actively pursuing. In a previous interview with Taste of Country, Parton expressed her desire to create her own television network in the near future.
