Dolly Parton is interested in organizing a lookalike contest because she is looking for someone who closely resembles her, regardless of which stage of her career they resemble her from. If you happen to have a strong resemblance to Dolly Parton, she may consider casting you in a Broadway musical based on her life.
Indeed, Parton is currently engaged in the process of transforming her life story into a musical, as she disclosed to People.
She expresses that going to Broadway and debuting her own show there has always been a major aspiration of hers for a long time. It is the one goal that she wants to prioritize and ensure she achieves while she is still alive and able to actively participate in it.
In this manner, she will have the opportunity to make artistic choices, such as the unconventional decision to allow individuals from various backgrounds to audition for the role of Dolly. This includes not limiting casting to only those with extensive experience in musical theater.
Parton has expressed her interest in potentially leading a "Finding Dolly" competition, which would involve a wide-ranging search to find actors for three different versions of the main character. These versions would include a young Dolly, a Dolly in her earlier years, and an older Dolly, as elaborated by the singer.
"We will be holding auditions and exploring various avenues to discover talented individuals. I believe this process will also be enjoyable for the audience," Parton explains. "It's exciting because you never know where we might find these individuals. They may have never stepped foot on a stage before, or perhaps they have only performed in small local theaters. However, our search for talent will be an exciting and entertaining part of the journey."
Dolly Parton has mentioned the concept of a musical based on her life in previous interviews. She expressed her desire to have the show ready by "late '25" during her recent conversation with People.
The country legend has a few career dreams that she is currently striving to achieve. In an interview with Taste of Country last January, Parton shared her desire to create her own television network in the near future.
