The Grand Ole Opry expresses regret for Elle King's use of inappropriate language during her performance at the Dolly Parton tribute. The singer appeared to be under the influence of alcohol during the event.

The Grand Ole Opry held a birthday celebration for Dolly Parton, who turned 78 on January 19th. The event took place at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium on Friday. Although Dolly Parton was not present, other musicians performed her songs in tribute. However, the performance was disrupted when singer-songwriter Elle King appeared onstage seemingly drunk. At one point, she openly admitted to being intoxicated and forgot the lyrics to Dolly Parton's songs during her set.

The following day, the Opry expressed a casual apology to a concert-goer on X (previously known as Twitter).

The official Grand Ole Opry account responded to a fan who expressed disappointment on Twitter about Elle King's performance during the second Opry show of the night. The account expressed regret and offered an apology for the language that was used during the performance.

Hello Judas, we would like to express our sincere regret and offer our apologies for the language that was used during the second Opry performance last night.

Rolling Stone reached out for a comment from the Grand Ole Opry and Elle King, but their representatives have not responded yet.

Lauren Alaina, Terri Clark, Tigirlily Gold, Ashley Monroe, Dailey and Vincent, and several other artists were selected for the Friday night event. Instead of the usual venue at the Opry House, the shows were broadcast live on 650 AM WSM from the Ryman Auditorium. However, Alaina decided to cancel her appearance before the event started.

After engaging in a brief exchange with some individuals near the stage, King addressed the audience with an additional statement. He introduced himself as Elle King and openly admitted to being heavily intoxicated. A reliable source, who is familiar with the matter, confirmed that WSM had received complaints from listeners, although the specific number of complaints remains unknown.

On TikTok, there are videos showing King's bandmates trying to salvage the performance by suggesting that she play one of her own songs instead. In response, she mentioned that she struggles to play songs by other artists and would rather try playing one of her own. Just before that, she had stumbled through a rendition of Parton's "Marry Me" and jokingly mentioned that she doesn't know the lyrics to songs in that particular town. She also added not to tell Dolly because it was her birthday.

King also informed the fans that their attempt to obtain a refund would not be fruitful. When one person implied that they wouldn't even want their money back, she responded by saying, "That's great, because you're not going to receive it anyway."

The singer also couldn't believe that people had actually paid to attend the event. They were shocked and asked, "Wow. I can't believe it. Did you all really buy tickets for this?"
