On January 19, the Grand Ole Opry honored Dolly Parton on her 78th birthday with a special event at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium. Although Dolly Parton herself was not present, other musicians performed her songs as a tribute. However, the performance took an unexpected turn when singer-songwriter Elle King appeared on stage seemingly drunk. She openly admitted to being intoxicated and even forgot the lyrics to Dolly Parton's songs during her set.

The following day, the Opry expressed a casual apology to a concertgoer on the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.

The official Grand Ole Opry account expressed sincere remorse and offered an apology for the choice of language used during the second Opry performance last night. This response was made to a fan who expressed their disappointment on Twitter, stating that Elle King's performance was ruined due to her being drunk and using profanity.

Hello Judas, we want to express our sincere regret and offer our apologies for the offensive language that was used during the second performance of the Opry last night.

Representatives from the Grand Ole Opry and Elle King have not yet responded to Rolling Stone's request for comment.

A lineup of talented artists, including Lauren Alaina, Terri Clark, Tigirlily Gold, Ashley Monroe, Dailey and Vincent, were chosen to perform at a Friday night event. The shows were broadcasted live on 650 AM WSM from the Ryman Auditorium, deviating from the usual venue of the Opry House. Unfortunately, Lauren Alaina had to cancel her appearance before the event started.

After engaging in a brief exchange with the audience members near the stage, King addressed the crowd, saying, "There's something else I want to share with you all." She then introduced herself as Elle King and stated that she was heavily intoxicated. According to a reliable source connected to Rolling Stone, WSM received complaints from its listeners, although the specific number of complaints is unknown.

On TikTok, videos were shared showing King's bandmates trying to salvage the performance by suggesting that she play one of her own songs instead. In response, King expressed her difficulty in playing someone else's song and proposed playing one of her own. Just moments before, she had struggled through Dolly Parton's "Marry Me," apologizing for not knowing the lyrics and mentioning that it was Parton's birthday.

King also informed fans that their attempt to obtain a refund would not be fruitful. In response to someone implying that they wouldn't even want their money back, she retorted by saying, "That's great, because you won't be receiving it."

The singer expressed disbelief that anyone would have actually paid to attend the event. They were surprised and asked if people really bought tickets for it. Five dollars from each ticket sale went towards the Opry Trust Fund, which has been helping members of the music community in need for over 50 years.
