Parton has confirmed that she is currently working on transforming her life story into a musical, as she shared with People magazine.
For many years, she has had a significant goal of performing on Broadway and having her own show there. She emphasizes that this particular goal is extremely important to her and she wants to make sure she achieves it while she is still alive and able to actively participate in it.
By doing so, she will have the opportunity to make artistic choices, such as the unconventional decision to extend casting opportunities to individuals from different backgrounds, rather than limiting it to those with extensive experience in musical theater.
Parton mentions that she could potentially lead a competition called "Finding Dolly," where they would conduct an extensive search to find performers for three different versions of the main character. These versions include a young Dolly, a Dolly from her earlier years, and an older Dolly.
"We will be holding auditions and searching for talented individuals using various methods. I believe this process will also be enjoyable for people," Parton elaborates. "You never know where we might discover these individuals. They could be completely new to performing on stage or may have only been involved in local theater productions. However, the search for these individuals will be an exciting part of the journey, in my opinion."
Dolly Parton has mentioned the possibility of a musical based on her life before, occasionally bringing it up in interviews. In her most recent conversation with People, she expressed her desire to have the show ready to be performed by the end of 2025.
The country music icon has multiple career aspirations that she is actively pursuing. Parton disclosed to Taste of Country in January of last year that she has a desire to establish her own television network in the near future.
