Dolly Parton is interested in organizing a contest for people who resemble her in order to potentially cast them in a Broadway musical based on her life, regardless of which stage of her career they resemble.
Yes, it is true. Parton is currently working on transforming her life story into a musical, as she disclosed to People magazine.
For many years, she has had a significant goal in her mind – to go on Broadway and open her own show there. She expresses that this is something she really wants to accomplish while she is alive and able to actively participate in it.
In this manner, she will have the opportunity to make artistic choices, such as the unconventional decision to allow people from diverse backgrounds to audition for the role of Dolly, regardless of their prior experience in musical theater.
Parton reveals that she could potentially lead a competition called "Finding Dolly," in which a wide-ranging talent search will be conducted to find actors for three different versions of the main character. These versions include a young Dolly, a Dolly from her earlier years, and an older Dolly.
"We will be conducting auditions and searching for them using various methods. I believe this process will also be enjoyable for people," Parton explains. "You never know where you might discover them. They could be individuals who have never performed on stage before, or perhaps they have been involved in community theater. Regardless, we will actively seek them out, and I believe this aspect will add to the excitement."
Dolly Parton has previously mentioned the possibility of a musical about her life in a few interviews. She expressed her desire to see the show come to life by the end of 2025, as revealed in her recent conversation with People magazine.
