Dolly Parton’s Broadway Dream: Why She Wants to Hold a Lookalike Contest

  • by

Dolly Parton is interested in organizing a lookalike competition for a specific reason. If you happen to closely resemble Dolly Parton, regardless of the time period in her career, she may consider selecting you to be part of a Broadway production that portrays her life.

Yes, it is true. Parton is currently working on transforming her life story into a musical, as she disclosed to People magazine.

She expresses that going to Broadway and debuting her own show there has been a significant goal she has had for a long time. She emphasizes that this is the one goal she wants to ensure she accomplishes while she is still alive and able to actively participate in it.

In this manner, she will have the opportunity to make artistic choices, which includes the unconventional decision to allow individuals from diverse backgrounds to audition for the role of Dolly, rather than solely considering those with extensive musical theater background.

Parton indicates that she could potentially lead a competition called "Finding Dolly," which aims to discover individuals to portray three distinct versions of the main character. These versions include a younger Dolly, an earlier stage of Dolly's life, and an older Dolly.

"We will be conducting auditions and exploring various avenues to discover talented individuals. I believe this process will also be enjoyable for the audience as well," Parton adds. "You never know where we might stumble upon these individuals. They could be completely new to performing or might have participated in community theater productions. Nevertheless, we will actively search for them, making it an exciting aspect of the experience."

Parton has mentioned the concept of a musical about her life on multiple occasions in various interviews. She expressed her desire to have the production ready by "late '25," as per her recent conversation with People magazine.

The country music icon has multiple career aspirations that she is currently striving to achieve. In an interview with Taste of Country last January, Parton disclosed her desire to establish her own television network in the near future.
