Dolly Parton is interested in hosting a lookalike contest for a specific reason. If you happen to closely resemble Dolly Parton, regardless of which era of her career, she might consider selecting you to be a part of a Broadway musical that tells the story of her life.
Yes, it is true. Parton is currently working on turning her life story into a musical, as she recently shared with People magazine.
She expresses that one of her biggest goals has always been to go on Broadway and debut her own show there. This is something she has desired for a long time and wants to ensure that she accomplishes it while she is still alive and able to actively participate in it.
By doing so, she will have the ability to make artistic choices, such as the unconventional decision to allow individuals from various backgrounds to audition for the role of Dolly, rather than solely relying on individuals with extensive musical theater experience.
Parton mentions that she could potentially lead a contest called "Finding Dolly," where they would conduct a wide talent search to find actors for three distinct versions of the main character. These versions include a younger Dolly, an earlier stage of Dolly's life, and an older Dolly.
"We will be conducting auditions and exploring various methods to discover these individuals. I believe this process will also be enjoyable for people," adds Parton. "It's exciting because you never know where we might come across them. They could be completely new to performing or perhaps have only been involved in small local productions. Nevertheless, we will actively seek them out, and that will contribute to the excitement, in my opinion."
Parton has previously mentioned the concept of a musical inspired by her life on a few occasions. In her recent discussion with People, the singer expressed her desire to have the show ready for production by the end of 2025.
