Dolly Parton’s Broadway Dream: Why She Wants to Hold a Lookalike Contest

  • by

Dolly Parton has expressed her desire to organize a lookalike contest for a specific reason. If someone looks remarkably similar to Dolly Parton, regardless of which stage of her career they resemble, the renowned country singer may consider casting them in a Broadway production that tells the story of her life.

Yes, it is true. Parton is currently working on turning her life story into a musical, as she shared with People.

She expresses that one of her biggest goals has always been to perform on Broadway and have her own show. It is something she has been aspiring to for a long time and she wants to make sure she accomplishes it while she is still actively involved and alive.

In this manner, she will have the opportunity to make artistic choices, such as the unconventional decision to consider applicants from diverse backgrounds for the role of Dolly. This includes individuals who may not necessarily have extensive experience in musical theater.

Parton suggests that she may take charge of a competition called "Finding Dolly," where they will search for talented individuals to portray three different versions of the main character. These versions will include a younger Dolly, an earlier stage Dolly, and an older Dolly, as described by the singer.

"We will be conducting auditions and utilizing various methods to discover talented individuals," Parton explains. "I believe this process will also be enjoyable for people. The exciting part is that you never know where we might find them. These individuals may have never performed on a stage before, or perhaps they have only been involved in community theater. Nonetheless, we will actively search for them, and that aspect will contribute to the excitement of the whole experience, I believe."

Parton has mentioned the possibility of a musical about her life in previous interviews. She expressed her desire to have the show ready by "late '25," as stated in her recent conversation with People magazine.

One of the many aspirations that the famous country singer is currently pursuing is to make her career dreams come true. Last year, Parton disclosed to Taste of Country that she is also eager to establish her own television network in the near future.
