Dolly Parton’s Broadway Dream: Why She Wants to Hold a Lookalike Contest for Her Musical

  • by

Dolly Parton is interested in organizing a lookalike contest for a specific reason. She is searching for individuals who closely resemble her, regardless of the era of her career, as she plans to potentially cast them in a Broadway production based on her life.

Yes, it is true. Parton is currently working on transforming her life story into a musical, as she informed People magazine.

She expresses that one of her long-standing aspirations is to perform on Broadway and have her show debut there. This goal holds great significance for her and is something she has been determined to achieve for a considerable amount of time. She emphasizes the importance of accomplishing this while she is alive and able to actively participate in the process.

In this manner, she will have the opportunity to make imaginative choices, such as the unconventional decision to allow people from diverse backgrounds to audition for the role of Dolly, even if they do not have extensive experience in musical theater.

Parton suggests that she could possibly lead a competition called "Finding Dolly," which aims to discover talented individuals to portray three different versions of the main character. These versions include a younger Dolly, an earlier stage in Dolly's life, and an older Dolly.

"We will be conducting auditions and utilizing various methods to discover talented individuals," Parton explains. "I believe this will also be an enjoyable experience for people. It's unpredictable where we might come across these individuals. They could have no previous experience on stage or perhaps have only performed in local theaters. Nonetheless, we are determined to search for them, and I believe that will add to the excitement."

Dolly Parton has mentioned the idea of a musical based on her life in previous interviews. She expressed her desire to see the show come to life by the end of 2025, as per her recent discussion with People magazine.

The renowned country icon has a few career aspirations that she is actively pursuing. In a previous interview with Taste of Country, Parton disclosed her desire to establish her own television network in the near future.
