Dolly Parton is interested in hosting a lookalike competition for a specific reason. If someone closely resembles Dolly Parton, regardless of which stage of her career they resemble, she may consider casting them in a Broadway production that tells the story of her life.
Indeed, Parton has confirmed that she is currently working on transforming her life story into a musical, as she disclosed to People magazine.
She expresses that going to Broadway and launching her own show there has been a significant goal she has cherished for a long time. She emphasizes that it is the one goal she wants to ensure she accomplishes while she is still alive and able to be actively involved in it.
By doing so, she will have the opportunity to make creative choices, such as the unconventional decision to open up auditions for the role of Dolly to individuals from diverse backgrounds, not solely limited to those with extensive experience in musical theater.
Parton mentions that she could potentially lead a competition called "Finding Dolly," where they would conduct a widespread search for talented individuals to portray three different versions of the main character. These versions would include a younger Dolly, a Dolly from her earlier years, and an older Dolly, as clarified by the singer.
"We will be conducting auditions using various methods to discover talented individuals. I believe this will also be enjoyable for the audience," Parton adds. "You never know where we might come across them. They could be completely new to performing or have only had experience in small local theaters. Nonetheless, we will search for them, and I believe that will add to the excitement."
Parton has mentioned the possibility of a musical about her life before, mentioning it in a few interviews. The singer has expressed her desire to have the show produced by the end of 2025, as per her recent discussion with People magazine.
