Dolly Parton’s Broadway Dream: Why She’s Holding a Lookalike Contest for Her Musical

  • by

Dolly Parton is interested in organizing a contest where she is looking for individuals who closely resemble her, regardless of the time period in her career. The reason behind this is that she is considering casting these lookalikes in a Broadway musical based on her life.

Indeed, Parton is currently engaged in the process of transforming her life story into a musical, as she disclosed to People magazine.

She expresses that it has been a significant goal of hers for a long time to go on Broadway and have her show open there. She emphasizes that this particular goal is the one she wants to ensure she achieves while she is still alive and able to actively participate in it.

In this manner, she will have the opportunity to make artistic choices, such as the unconventional decision to allow individuals from diverse backgrounds to audition for the role of Dolly. This includes not only those who have extensive experience in musical theater.

Parton suggests that she could potentially lead a competition called "Finding Dolly," which aims to discover talented individuals to portray three different versions of the main character. The search will be for a young Dolly, a Dolly from her earlier years, and an older Dolly, as described by the singer.

"We will be conducting auditions and searching for talent using various methods. I believe this will also be enjoyable for the audience," Parton explains. "You never know where we may discover these individuals. They could be completely new to the stage or may have only performed in small local theaters. However, our search for talent will be an exciting and entertaining part of the process."

Parton has previously mentioned the possibility of a musical about her life on a few occasions. In her recent interview with People, she expressed her desire to have the show ready by "late '25."

The country legend has a few career dreams that she is currently striving to turn into reality. In an interview with Taste of Country in January, Parton shared her desire to establish her own television network in the near future.
