She expresses that performing on Broadway and debuting her own show there has always been a significant goal for her. She wants to ensure that she accomplishes this goal while she is alive and able to actively participate in it.
In this manner, she will have the opportunity to make artistic choices, which includes the unconventional decision to allow people from various backgrounds to audition for the role of Dolly, irrespective of their level of experience in musical theater.
Parton suggests that she could possibly lead a competition called "Finding Dolly," where they will conduct an extensive search to find actors for three different versions of the main character. They will be looking for someone to portray "young Dolly," "Dolly in her earlier years," and "an older Dolly," as clarified by the singer.
"We will be conducting auditions and searching for them using various methods. I believe this will also be enjoyable for the audience," Parton adds. "You never know where you might discover them. They may have never performed on stage before, or perhaps they have been involved in a small community theater. Regardless, we will actively seek them out, and I believe this will add to the excitement."
Dolly Parton has previously mentioned the possibility of a musical about her life in various interviews. She expressed her desire to see the show produced by the end of 2025, as per her recent discussion with People magazine.
The famous country singer has multiple career aspirations that she is actively pursuing. In a previous interview with Taste of Country, Parton expressed her desire to establish her own television network in the near future.
