Dolly Parton is interested in organizing a lookalike contest for a specific reason. She is open to the idea of casting someone who closely resembles her, regardless of the era of her career, for a Broadway musical centered around her life.
Yes, it is true. Parton is currently in the process of creating a musical based on her own life, as she disclosed to People magazine.
She expresses that one of her long-standing goals has always been to perform on Broadway and debut her own show there. It is a significant aspiration for her, and she wants to ensure that she accomplishes it while she is still alive and able to actively participate in it.
By doing so, she will have the opportunity to make artistic choices, such as the unconventional decision to broaden the casting process for potential Dollys to individuals from diverse backgrounds, rather than solely focusing on those with extensive musical theater backgrounds.
Parton mentions that she might take charge of a competition called "Finding Dolly," where they will conduct a wide talent search to find actors for three different versions of the main character. These versions will include a young Dolly, a Dolly from her earlier years, and an older Dolly.
"We will be holding auditions and utilizing various methods to discover talented individuals. I believe this process will be enjoyable for everyone," Parton explains. "It's exciting because you never know where we might come across these individuals. They could be completely new to performing or have only been involved in small local productions. However, our search for these hidden gems will definitely add to the excitement."
Parton has mentioned the idea of a musical about her life on previous occasions. In a recent interview with People, she expressed her desire to have the show ready by the end of 2025.
The legendary country singer has multiple career aspirations that she is actively pursuing. In an interview with Taste of Country last January, Dolly Parton disclosed her desire to establish her own television network in the near future.
