Dolly Parton is interested in organizing a lookalike contest for a specific reason. She is seeking individuals who closely resemble her, regardless of the period in her career, as she is considering casting them in a Broadway production based on her life.
Yes, it is true. Parton is currently working on turning her life story into a musical, as she shared with People magazine.
She expresses that one of her long-standing aspirations has been to perform on Broadway and have her own show there. She considers it a significant goal that she wants to accomplish while she is still alive and able to actively participate in it.
In this manner, she will have the opportunity to make artistic choices, which includes the unconventional decision to allow individuals from various backgrounds to audition for the role of Dolly, regardless of their level of experience in musical theater.
Parton suggests that she could potentially lead a competition called "Finding Dolly," where there will be a wide-ranging search to find actors for three different versions of the main character. These versions include a young Dolly, a Dolly from her earlier years, and an older Dolly.
"We will be conducting auditions and searching for them using various methods. I believe this process will also be enjoyable for people," Parton explains. "You never know where you will come across them. They might not have any prior experience on stage or may have only performed in small local theaters. However, we will actively search for them, and I believe that will add to the excitement."
This isn't the first instance where Parton has mentioned the possibility of a musical centered around her life. She has casually mentioned it in various interviews before. Parton expressed her desire to have the show produced by the end of 2025, as per her recent discussion with People magazine.
