Dolly Parton is interested in hosting a lookalike competition because she is looking for someone who closely resembles her at any point in her career. She hopes to find someone who can portray her in a Broadway musical based on her life.
Yes, it is true. Parton is currently working on transforming her life story into a musical, as she disclosed to People magazine.
For a long time, she has had a significant goal in her mind, which is to go on Broadway and have her show open there. It is something she is determined to accomplish while she is still alive and able to be actively involved in it.
In this manner, she will have the opportunity to make artistic choices, such as the unconventional decision to allow casting for the role of Dolly from individuals of diverse backgrounds and not solely those with extensive musical theater background.
Parton suggests that she might take charge of a contest called "Finding Dolly," where she plans to conduct a wide search for talented individuals to play three versions of the main character. These versions include a young Dolly, a Dolly from her earlier years, and an older Dolly.
"We will be conducting auditions and searching for them using various methods. I believe this will also be enjoyable for the audience," Parton adds. "You never know where we will discover them. They might not have any prior experience on stage or might have only performed in local theaters, but we will actively seek them out, and that will be an exciting part of the process, I believe."
Parton has mentioned the possibility of a musical about her life before, mentioning it casually in a few interviews. She expressed her desire to have the show ready by the end of 2025, as she shared in her recent conversation with People magazine.
