Dolly Parton has expressed her interest in organizing a lookalike contest for a specific reason. If you happen to closely resemble Dolly Parton, regardless of which stage of her career, there is a chance that she might consider casting you for a Broadway production based on her life.
Indeed, Parton is currently engaged in the process of transforming her life story into a musical, as she recently disclosed to People.
She expresses that one of her long-standing goals has been to go on Broadway and debut her own show there. It is a significant aspiration that she has nurtured for many years. She emphasizes that making this dream a reality is crucial to her and she wants to ensure that she accomplishes it while she is still active and able to participate in the production process.
By doing so, she will have the opportunity to make artistic choices, such as the unconventional decision to extend casting opportunities for potential Dollys from diverse backgrounds, regardless of their previous experience in musical theater.
Parton suggests that she may be leading a contest called "Finding Dolly," which aims to discover talented individuals to portray three different versions of the main character. These versions include a young Dolly, a Dolly from her earlier years, and an older Dolly.
"We will be conducting auditions and using various methods to discover talented individuals. I believe this process will also be enjoyable for people," states Parton. "You never know where we may come across them. They might not have had any prior experience performing on stage, or perhaps they have only been involved in small local theater productions. However, we are determined to search for them, and I believe that aspect will add to the excitement."
Parton has mentioned the possibility of a musical about her life before on multiple occasions. In a recent interview with People, she expressed her desire to see the show come to fruition by "late '25."
The country music icon has several career aspirations that she is currently striving to achieve. According to an interview with Taste of Country in January, Parton also expressed her desire to establish her own television network in the near future.
