Garth Brooks, the famous country singer, had a significant impact on the batting stance of a professional baseball player in MLB. Craig Counsell, the current manager of the Chicago Cubs, had a successful career as a baseball player in the major leagues for over a decade, starting from 1995 until 2007.
Counsell gained recognition for his unique way of holding the bat while batting. He would elevate it high up in the air, leaving everyone curious about the reason behind this unusual stance. Surprisingly, Counsell never provided any explanation for his unconventional technique.
After being appointed as the manager of the Chicago Cubs, Counsell participated in the 2024 Cubs Convention. During the event, an individual finally inquired about the reason behind his previous practice of holding the bat at a high position in the air.
He attributes the cause to Garth Brooks.
Counsell explains that he wasn't skilled at hitting and recounts a time when he was a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers during spring training. He struggled to make any hits during that period.
During a spring training game, I hit a powerful hit towards the left field. Excitedly, I thought to myself, "Finally, my first successful hit!" Without wasting any time, I immediately began sprinting towards first base. The crowd erupted with wild excitement and cheers. However, to my surprise, as I looked up, I saw that Garth Brooks had made an incredible diving catch in left field, causing me to continue my streak of not getting a hit, going 0-4.
The attendees at the media briefing found this narrative to be extremely amusing.
The following day, I was set free. I engaged in a personal conversation, questioning why I was unable to achieve any successes. This contemplation prompted me to raise my hands high in the air, and surprisingly, it made a positive impact.

Brooks, a renowned figure in the music industry, had a sports-oriented upbringing where he actively participated in baseball and track and field. Despite his attempts to join the New York Mets on three separate occasions, he unfortunately did not secure a spot on the team.
