Garth Brooks, the renowned country singer, once had an influence on an MLB hitter's batting stance. Craig Counsell, who is now the manager of the Chicago Cubs, had a remarkable career as a professional baseball player from 1995 to 2007.
Counsell was famous for his unique and unconventional way of holding the bat while batting. He would raise it high in the air, leaving everyone wondering about the reason behind this stance. Surprisingly, he never offered any explanation for his unusual technique.
After being appointed as the manager of the Chicago Cubs, Counsell participated in the 2024 Cubs Convention, where an individual finally inquired about the reason behind his habit of holding the bat at a high position in the air.
He attributes the responsibility to Garth Brooks.
Counsell clarifies that during his time at spring training with the Los Angeles Dodgers, he struggled as a hitter and was unable to achieve any hits.
During a spring training game, I successfully hit a powerful hit towards the left field. I was incredibly thrilled and excited because it was my very first hit of the game. Without wasting a moment, I immediately dashed towards first base while keeping my focus down. The crowd erupted into a frenzy, displaying their enthusiasm and support. However, as I glanced up, I was taken aback to witness Garth Brooks, the famous singer, making an impressive diving catch in left field. This unexpected catch by Garth extended my streak of not getting a hit
The attendees at the media briefing were highly amused by this story.
The following day, I was set free. Reflecting on my situation, I had a conversation with myself, questioning why I was unable to achieve any successes. This internal dialogue prompted me to raise my hands high up in the air, and surprisingly, it made a positive difference.

Brooks, who is widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in the music industry, had a passion for sports during his younger years. He actively participated in baseball and track and field events. Despite his attempts, he had three separate opportunities to join the New York Mets but unfortunately, he was not successful in securing a spot on the team.
