Garth Brooks, the famous country singer, had an interesting encounter with a former MLB player that resulted in the player changing his batting stance. Craig Counsell, who is now the manager of the Chicago Cubs, had a successful career as a professional baseball player for over a decade, from 1995 to 2007.
Counsell had a unique batting stance that was quite unconventional. He would hold his bat high up in the air, and the reason behind this peculiar stance remained a mystery to everyone. Interestingly, Counsell never provided any explanation for it either.
After being appointed as the manager of the Chicago Cubs, Counsell participated in the 2024 Cubs Convention, during which someone eventually inquired about the reason behind his habit of holding the bat at a high position.
He holds Garth Brooks accountable for it.
According to Counsell, he wasn't a skilled hitter during his time with the Los Angeles Dodgers while he was participating in spring training with the team. He struggled to make any successful hits.
During spring training, I successfully hit a strong hit towards the left field. Excitedly, I thought to myself, "Finally! My first hit!" With my focus on reaching first base, I didn't pay much attention to the crowd's reaction. However, their uproar was immense. When I glanced up, I was astonished to see that it was Garth Brooks who had made an incredible diving catch in left field, preventing my streak of not getting a hit from continuing.
The people attending the press conference found this story extremely amusing.
The following day, I was let go from my obligations. I took some time to reflect on my performance and questioned myself, wondering why I couldn't achieve any successes. This internal conversation led me to raise my hands high up in the air as a gesture, and surprisingly, it had a positive impact on my situation.
Therefore, I hold Garth Brooks responsible for a terrible position used when batting in baseball.
Brooks, who is renowned as one of the most prominent figures in the music industry, had an athletic side during his early years. He actively participated in baseball and track and field events. Despite having three opportunities to join the New York Mets, he unfortunately did not succeed in securing a spot on the team.
