Garth Brooks, the country singer, had an influence on a professional baseball player's batting stance. Craig Counsell, who is now the manager of the Chicago Cubs, had a successful career as a baseball player from 1995 to 2007.
Counsell was famous for his unorthodox way of holding the bat while batting. He would raise it high up in the air, and the reason behind this peculiar stance remained a mystery to everyone. Moreover, Counsell never provided an explanation for his unconventional approach.
After being appointed as the manager of the Chicago Cubs, Counsell participated in the 2024 Cubs Convention, during which someone inquired about the reason behind his practice of holding the bat at a high position in the air.
He attributes the fault to Garth Brooks.
Counsell explains that during his time with the Los Angeles Dodgers at spring training, he struggled as a hitter and was unable to make any successful hits.
During a spring training game, I confidently struck a solid hit towards the left field. Overjoyed, I thought to myself, "Finally! My first successful hit!" With my head down, I quickly began sprinting towards first base. The crowd erupted in wild excitement, their cheers filling the air. However, as I glanced up, I was astonished to see Garth Brooks, the famous musician, unexpectedly diving to make an incredible catch in left field. This unfortunate event extended my streak of not getting any hits in the game to 0
The people attending the press conference found this story incredibly amusing.
The following day, I was set free. I engaged in a personal conversation, questioning myself with the words, "Why am I unable to achieve any successful hits?" This contemplation prompted me to raise my hands high up in the air, and surprisingly, it proved to be beneficial.

Brooks, a renowned figure in the music industry, had a passion for sports during his younger years. He participated in baseball and track and field events. Despite having three opportunities to join the New York Mets, he unfortunately did not secure a spot on the team.
