Garth Brooks’ Impact on MLB Hitter’s Batting Stance Revealed by Chicago Cubs Manager

  • by

Garth Brooks had an impact on an MLB hitter's batting stance in the past. The current manager of the Chicago Cubs, Craig Counsell, had a successful career as a professional baseball player from 1995 to 2007.

Counsell gained recognition for his unique and non-traditional way of holding the bat while batting. He would raise it high up in the air, leaving everyone curious about the reason behind this technique. Interestingly, he never provided any explanation for it.

After assuming the managerial position for the Chicago Cubs, Counsell participated in the 2024 Cubs Convention. During the event, an individual finally inquired about the reason behind his previous habit of holding the bat at a high position in the air.

He attributes the responsibility to Garth Brooks.

Counsell shares that during his time with the Los Angeles Dodgers, he struggled as a hitter and particularly faced difficulties during spring training where he was unable to achieve any successful hits.

During spring training, I successfully hit a strong hit towards the left field. I felt a surge of excitement as it was my first base hit. With my head down, I swiftly ran towards first base while the crowd erupted into cheers. However, to my surprise, when I looked up, I noticed that Garth Brooks had made an impressive diving catch in left field, thus prolonging my streak of not getting any hits in the game.

The people attending the press conference found this story extremely funny.

The following day, I was set free. I had a conversation with myself, pondering why I was unable to achieve any successes. This ultimately prompted me to raise my hands high up in the air. Surprisingly, it made a positive impact and improved my situation.

I hold Garth Brooks responsible for a terrible batting stance.

Brooks, who is recognized as one of the most prominent figures in the music industry, had a passion for sports during his younger years. He actively participated in baseball and track and field events. Despite having three opportunities to join the New York Mets, he unfortunately did not succeed in securing a spot on the team.
