Garth Brooks, the renowned country singer, was able to influence a professional baseball player's batting stance in the past. Craig Counsell, who is now the manager of the Chicago Cubs, had an impressive career as a baseball player spanning from 1995 to 2007.
Counsell was famous for his unique way of holding the bat while batting. He would raise it high up in the air, and the reason behind this stance remained a mystery to everyone. Interestingly, Counsell never provided an explanation for his unconventional technique.
After Counsell was appointed as the manager of the Chicago Cubs, he participated in the 2024 Cubs Convention. During the event, someone eventually inquired about the reason behind his practice of holding the bat at a high position in the air.
He attributes the responsibility to Garth Brooks.
According to Counsell, during his time with the Los Angeles Dodgers at spring training, he struggled as a hitter and was unable to make any successful hits.
During a spring training game, I successfully hit a strong hit towards the left side of the field. I was filled with excitement as it marked my first base hit of the game. Eagerly, I lowered my head and sprinted towards first base. The crowd erupted in wild cheers, creating a lively atmosphere. However, upon glancing up, I discovered that Garth Brooks had unexpectedly made a remarkable diving catch in left field, preventing my hit from breaking my 0-4 streak.
The individuals attending the media briefing were greatly amused by this narrative.
The following day, I was set free. I engaged in a personal conversation, questioning why I was unable to achieve any successful hits. This self-reflection prompted me to raise my hands high in the air, and surprisingly, it made a significant difference in my performance.
I hold Garth Brooks responsible for my terrible batting stance.
