Garth Brooks, a well-known country singer, had a significant impact on the batting stance of a former MLB player, Craig Counsell, who is now the manager of the Chicago Cubs. Counsell had a successful career as a professional baseball player from 1995 to 2007.
Counsell was famous for his unique manner of holding the bat while batting. He would elevate it high up in the air, leaving everyone puzzled about the reason behind this unconventional stance. Surprisingly, Counsell never provided any explanation for his peculiar batting technique.
After being appointed as the manager of the Chicago Cubs, Counsell participated in the 2024 Cubs Convention. During the event, an individual finally inquired about the reason behind his previous habit of holding the bat at a high position in the air.
He attributes the responsibility to Garth Brooks.
According to Counsell, during his time with the Los Angeles Dodgers at spring training, he admits to not being a skilled hitter and struggling to get any hits.
During a spring training game, I successfully hit a strong hit towards the left field. Excitedly, I thought to myself, "Finally! My first base hit!" Without wasting any time, I immediately began sprinting towards first base. The crowd erupted with excitement and cheers. However, when I raised my head to see the outcome, I was astonished to witness Garth Brooks making an incredible diving catch in left field, ultimately prolonging my unfortunate streak of not getting any hits throughout the game, which now stood at 0-4.
The individuals present at the press conference found this narrative incredibly amusing.
The following day, I was set free. I engaged in a personal conversation, questioning myself, "Why am I unable to achieve any successful hits?" This inquiry prompted me to raise my hands high up in the air. Surprisingly, this action proved to be beneficial and had a positive impact.

Brooks, who is renowned as one of the most prominent figures in the music industry, had a remarkable athletic background during his formative years. He actively participated in baseball and track and field events. Despite having three opportunities to play for the New York Mets, he unfortunately did not secure a spot on the team.
