Garth Brooks, the famous country singer, had an interesting encounter with a professional baseball player that led to a change in his batting stance. Craig Counsell, who is now the manager of the Chicago Cubs, had a successful career as a baseball player in the MLB from 1995 to 2007.
Counsell was famous for his unique approach to batting, as he would hold his bat high up in the air. The reason behind this unorthodox stance remained a mystery, as he never provided an explanation for it.
Upon Counsell's appointment as the manager of the Chicago Cubs, he made an appearance at the 2024 Cubs Convention. During the event, an individual inquired about the reason behind his previous practice of holding the bat at a high position in the air.
He attributes the responsibility to Garth Brooks.
According to Counsell, during his time with the Los Angeles Dodgers at spring training, he wasn't proficient at hitting and struggled to get any hits.
During a spring training game, I successfully hit a powerful shot towards the left field. I felt ecstatic as it was my first base hit of the game. With excitement running through me, I quickly lowered my head and sprinted towards first base. The crowd erupted in cheers, creating a chaotic atmosphere. However, when I glanced up, I was astonished to see that Garth Brooks, the famous musician, had made an incredible diving catch in left field, preventing me from breaking my 0-4 streak.
The individuals attending the press conference found this story to be extremely amusing.
The day after, I was set free. I had a conversation with myself, asking, "Why am I unable to achieve any successes?" This prompted me to raise my hands high up in the air, and surprisingly, it made a difference!

Brooks, a highly renowned figure in the music industry, also had a passion for sports during his youth. He actively participated in baseball and track and field events. Despite having three opportunities to join the New York Mets, he unfortunately did not succeed in securing a spot on the team.
