Garth Brooks, at one point, influenced a professional baseball player to alter his batting stance. Craig Counsell, who is now the manager of the Chicago Cubs, had an impressive career as a professional baseball player from 1995 to 2007.
Counsell had a reputation for having an unusual batting stance, as he would hold his bat high up in the air. The reason behind this peculiar stance remained a mystery to everyone, as he never offered an explanation for it.
After Counsell was appointed as the manager of the Chicago Cubs, he participated in the 2024 Cubs Convention, during which someone finally inquired about the reason behind his previous habit of holding the bat at a high position in the air.
He holds Garth Brooks responsible for it.
Counsell elaborates on his experience as a baseball player, mentioning that he struggled with hitting. He specifically recalls a time when he was a part of the Los Angeles Dodgers and was attending their spring training. Unfortunately, he had difficulty getting any hits during that period.
During a spring training game, I successfully hit a powerful shot towards the left field. Excitedly, I celebrated within myself, recognizing that it was my very first hit of the game. Without wasting any time, I swiftly began sprinting towards first base. The spectators in the crowd erupted with immense enthusiasm and excitement. However, to my astonishment, as I lifted my head to see the outcome, Garth Brooks unexpectedly executed a remarkable diving catch in left field, preventing me from breaking my 0-4 streak.
The individuals present at the media briefing were greatly amused by this particular story.
The day after, I was set free. I had a conversation with myself, questioning why I wasn't achieving any successful hits. This reflection prompted me to raise my hands high up in the air. Surprisingly, this action proved to be beneficial and improved my performance.
I hold Garth Brooks responsible for a dreadful batting stance.
Brooks, who is renowned as one of the most prominent figures in the music industry, had a notable athletic background during his younger years. He actively participated in baseball and track and field events. Despite having three opportunities to join the New York Mets, he unfortunately did not secure a spot on the team.
