Garth Brooks, the famous country singer, once had an impact on an MLB hitter's batting stance. Craig Counsell, who is now the manager of the Chicago Cubs, had a remarkable career as a professional baseball player from 1995 to 2007.
Counsell was famous for his unique and non-traditional way of holding his bat while batting. He would raise his bat high up in the air, but the reason behind this peculiar stance remained a mystery. Counsell never provided any explanation for it.
After Counsell was appointed as the manager of the Chicago Cubs, he participated in the 2024 Cubs Convention. At the event, someone finally inquired about the reason behind his previous practice of holding the bat at a high position in the air.
He attributes the responsibility to Garth Brooks.
According to Counsell, he wasn't skilled at hitting and he was currently part of the Los Angeles Dodgers team during their spring training. However, he was unable to successfully make any hits during that period.
During a spring training game, I smacked a powerful hit towards the left field. I felt an immediate rush of excitement as I thought, "Finally, my first base hit!" With my head down, I hurriedly sprinted towards first base. The crowd erupted into cheers, their excitement filling the air. However, when I glanced up, I was stunned to see that Garth Brooks had unexpectedly made a remarkable diving catch in left field, denying me of my first hit and maintaining my disappointing 0-4 streak.
The people present at the press conference found this story extremely amusing.
The following day, I was set free. I engaged in a conversation with myself, pondering why I was unable to achieve any successful hits. This contemplation led me to raise my hands high up in the air, and surprisingly, it made a positive impact on my performance.

Brooks, who is renowned as one of the most prominent figures in the music industry, had a passion for sports during his childhood. He actively participated in baseball and track and field events. Despite his three attempts to join the New York Mets, he unfortunately did not secure a spot on the team.
