Garth Brooks, the famous country singer, had an interesting encounter with an MLB player that led to a change in his batting stance. The current manager of the Chicago Cubs, Craig Counsell, used to be a highly skilled hitter during his time in professional baseball, which spanned from 1995 to 2007.
Counsell was famous for his unique batting stance where he would hold his bat high up in the air. The reason behind this peculiar stance remained a mystery as he never provided any explanation for it.
After Counsell was appointed as the Chicago Cubs' manager, he participated in the 2024 Cubs Convention, where an individual eventually inquired about the reason behind his previous habit of holding the bat at a high position in the air.
He attributes the responsibility to Garth Brooks.
Counsell clarifies that he didn't excel at hitting and recalls a specific instance during his time with the Los Angeles Dodgers. He recounts his struggles during spring training and how he was unable to achieve any successful hits.
During spring training, I successfully hit a powerful shot towards the left field. I felt a rush of excitement as it was my first hit of the game. Without wasting any time, I quickly started sprinting towards first base, feeling the energy of the crowd intensify. However, to my surprise, when I glanced up, I witnessed Garth Brooks making an incredible diving catch in left field, preventing me from breaking my 0-4 streak.
The people attending the press conference found this story to be extremely amusing.
The following day, I was set free. I had a conversation with myself, questioning why I couldn't achieve any successful hits. This self-reflection prompted me to raise my hands high up in the air. Surprisingly, this action proved to be beneficial and improved my situation.
