Garth Brooks, the famous country singer, was able to influence a professional baseball player to alter his batting stance during his time in the MLB. Craig Counsell, who is now the manager of the Chicago Cubs, had a successful career as a professional baseball player from 1995 to 2007.
Counsell was famous for his atypical batting stance where he would hold his bat high in the air, leaving everyone to wonder about the reason behind his choice. Interestingly, he never provided any explanation for his unique stance.
After being appointed as the manager of the Chicago Cubs, Counsell participated in the 2024 Cubs Convention. During the event, an individual finally inquired about the reason behind his previous habit of holding the bat high up in the air.
He attributes the responsibility to Garth Brooks.
Counsell clarifies that during his time with the Los Angeles Dodgers at spring training, he struggled as a hitter and couldn't manage to successfully hit the ball.
During spring training, I hit a powerful hit towards the left field. I felt excited thinking it was my first base hit. Without wasting any time, I lowered my head and sprinted towards first base. The crowd erupted with excitement. However, to my surprise, when I glanced up, I saw Garth Brooks making an incredible diving catch in left field, preventing me from breaking my 0-4 streak.
The individuals attending the press conference found this narrative to be incredibly amusing.
The following day, I was let go. I had a conversation with myself, questioning why I couldn't achieve any successful hits. This reflection prompted me to raise my hands high up in the air, and surprisingly, it made a significant difference!
