During the most recent episode of Taste of Country Nights, available on demand, Smith shares a personal anecdote about going to a Thomas Rhett concert in 2016 that had a profound effect on him.
At the age of 16, I went on a date with a girl to watch a Thomas Rhett concert. The venue was Ascend Amphitheater and we were seated in the lawn area. During the show, Thomas Rhett performed his song "Die a Happy Man" and I attempted to slow dance with the girl, trying to be romantic.
The following day, Smith shares that his girlfriend ended their relationship.
After a moment of laughter, he proceeds with the story. He mentions that around four years later, he was on tour with Rhett and thought to himself, "I suppose I had the final victory in that situation," indicating that he found it amusing.
Smith has recounted this story multiple times during live performances, as it is well-liked by the audience.
