During the most recent episode of Taste of Country Nights, available On Demand, Smith shares a personal anecdote about his experience at a Thomas Rhett concert in 2016 that had a significant influence on him.

At the age of 16, I went out on a date with a girl to attend a Thomas Rhett concert. I distinctly remember that the concert took place at Ascend Amphitheater, and we were seated on the lawn area. During the show, Thomas Rhett performed his song "Die a Happy Man," and I attempted to slow dance with the girl I was with, trying to create a sweet and romantic moment.

Smith mentions that the following day, his partner ended their relationship.

After sharing a moment of laughter, he proceeds to recount the story. He mentions that around four years later, he was on tour with Rhett when he realized that he had ultimately had the final laugh in that situation.

Smith has shared this story on stage multiple times, and it is loved by the audience.
