During the most recent episode of Taste of Country Nights, available for streaming, Smith shares a personal anecdote about his experience at a Thomas Rhett concert in 2016, which had a profound effect on him.

At the age of 16, I had the opportunity to go on a date with a girl to see a Thomas Rhett concert. The venue was Ascend Amphitheater, and we were seated on the lawn. During the show, Thomas Rhett performed his hit song "Die a Happy Man." I wanted to have a romantic moment with the girl, so I attempted to slow dance with her and be affectionate.

Smith further explains that the following day, his partner decided to end their relationship.

We enjoy a moment of laughter, and then he proceeds to tell the rest of the story. "After about 4 years, I found myself on tour with Rhett, and I couldn't help but think that I had the final victory in that situation," he remembers.

Smith has recounted this anecdote multiple times during his performances, and it is well-received by the audience.
