Fans of both traditional and contemporary country music have something to look forward to. A new duet version of the song "Hold on Hope" by Glen Campbell featuring Eric Church was released on Friday, January 26th.
The unexpected release is part of a revamped and posthumous edition of Campbell's 2011 album, Ghost on the Canvas, which will be available on April 19 through Surfdog Records and Big Machine Label Group.
The emotional song was penned by Robert Pollard, and it showcases Church and Campbell taking turns to sing the four verses. The lyrics narrate the honest thoughts of a tired individual, reflecting on life, solitude, and their optimism for a brighter future.
The streets are engulfed in darkness, creating an aura of mystery as they unravel. Within this obscurity lies the opportunity we risk to exist, constantly striving and extending our efforts. We yearn for a helping hand, even though it remains unseen. Both Campbell and Church express that everyone clings onto hope, as it is the only thing keeping them going. These heartfelt sentiments are accompanied by the soothing strumming of an acoustic guitar.
The second verse of the song begins with the lyrics mentioning an invitation to a final dance. It signifies that it is time to depart, but acknowledges that this is the consequence we face when we deceive one another. The lyrics also mention an animal mother who is open and welcoming without any cost. Throughout the verse, the idea is emphasized that everyone holds onto hope, and for the speaker, it is the only thing keeping them going. This verse is accompanied by the intensifying beats of the drums.
Included on the album Glen Campbell Duets – Ghost on the Canvas Sessions, you will find various collaborations with artists such as Dolly Parton, Sting, Daryl Hall, Carole King, and Eric Clapton. One of the tracks available is Clapton and Campbell's version of "Nothing But the Whole Wide World."
Campbell, known for his popular songs like "Rhinestone Cowboy," "Gentle on My Mind," and "Southern Nights," passed away on August 8, 2017, at a care facility in Nashville. He had been publicly fighting against Alzheimer's disease for a considerable amount of time.
Currently, Church is experiencing success on the country charts with his latest collaboration with Morgan Wallen titled "Man Made a Bar." These renowned artists have also decided to expand their partnership by joining forces to bring back the printed versions of the popular magazine, Field & Stream.
