Morgan Wallen has expressed his dissatisfaction with the release of his new song "Spin You Around" and has unexpectedly dropped a new version of the track. It appears that Wallen had no intention of re-recording or re-releasing the song in the first place.
On Friday, the musician delighted his fans by sharing a heartfelt acoustic love song. He also took the opportunity to reveal the story behind the song, explaining that a choice he made a decade ago ultimately
Besides criticizing the timing of this release, Wallen also criticized the music.
Morgan Wallen compiles a compilation of the 40 songs that have been played the most in the past half-century.
According to the writer, a few of the songs were decent, but the majority of them were awful because they were still in the process of learning how to write and understand the concept. Additionally, the writer clarifies that they were not the sole contributor to these songs, so many of them were not their own ideas and did not meet their personal standards.
Morgan Wallen's EP titled "Stand Alone" has garnered an impressive number of streams on Spotify, reaching almost 400 million. Among the popular tracks is the original version of "Spin You Alone," which has accumulated 240 million streams. The EP also features songs like "Sleep When We're Dead" and "Yin Yang Girl." While the project predominantly exudes a country-rock sound, it still maintains the hip-hop influence that Wallen has become recognized for.
Paul Trust and Sergio Sanchez, who is the lead singer of the rock band Atom Smash, have collaborated with Wallen to co-write all 13 songs on this album. Although the music may not be as impactful as Wallen's later work, fans will still be able to recognize the catchy rhythm in songs like "Going Down" and the soothing melody in tracks such as "Scared to Live Without You."
During the year 2014, Wallen participated in the sixth season of the television show The Voice. Therefore, it can be assumed that the session where these songs were created took place shortly after that, around 18 to 24 months before he officially joined Big Loud Records. Wallen does not deny that he recorded for Panacea and also signed a deal for artist management.
Regrettably, I entered into both agreements without the assistance of a lawyer, clarifies Wallen.
"2 of Us Alone" is an instance of a regrettable song. The lackluster arrangement is paired with a vocalist who is hardly recognizable in the year 2024.
Wallen is joined by piano and acoustic guitar on the track "Afterglow," which appears to be aimed at fans of soft rock from the early 2000s. In contrast, "Man of the South" and "Bonfire Jam" cater to a more mainstream rock audience. If producer Trust were to release these songs as his lead singles, it is doubtful that he would receive new opportunities in Nashville.
Take a listen to Morgan Wallen's song called "Spin You Around". Wallen wants to make it clear to his fans that the album he just released is not his upcoming project. However, he reassures them that he will be going back to the studio to record new music in February.
"It makes me uncomfortable when I hear these songs," he comments.
The production of this new acoustic version of "Spin You Around" was led by Joey Moi, who also gave his approval. Wallen mentioned that he recorded it in Nashville this week, and he was also responsible for designing the cover art for the song.
In order to give back, he has made the decision to contribute $100,000 from the Morgan Wallen Foundation to the Volunteer Lawyers & Professionals for the Arts program. This donation aims to support aspiring musicians who may encounter similar challenges.
