Morgan Wallen expresses his dissatisfaction with the release of his record and unexpectedly drops a new version of his song "Spin You Around." It appears that Wallen had no intention of re-recording or re-releasing the track, and it seems like he wasn't enthusiastic about it either.
The artist released the heartfelt acoustic love song to his followers on Friday and revealed that a choice he made a decade ago ultimately influenced this decision.
Besides criticizing the timing of the release, Wallen also expressed negative views about the music.
Associated: Morgan Wallen compiles a compilation of the 40 songs that have been played the most over the past half-century.
According to the writer, a few songs were decent, but the majority of them were awful because they were still in the process of learning how to write and understand it. The writer also mentions that they were not the only person involved in creating these songs, so many of them did not meet their personal standards and were not their original ideas.
Morgan Wallen's EP titled "Stand Alone" has gained significant popularity on Spotify, with almost 400 million streams. One of the songs from the EP, called "Spin You Alone," has been streamed 240 million times. Other notable tracks on the EP include "Sleep When We're Dead" and "Yin Yang Girl." While the overall vibe of the project is country-rock, it still showcases the hip-hop influence that Wallen has become recognized for.
Paul Trust and Sergio Sanchez, who is the lead singer of the rock band Atom Smash, have collaborated with Wallen as co-writers on all 13 songs. Although these songs may not possess the same level of intensity as his later recordings, fans will still be able to identify familiar beats in new tracks like "Going Down" and appreciate the soothing melodies found in songs like "Scared to Live Without You."
During the year 2014, Wallen participated in Season 6 of The Voice. Therefore, it is highly probable that the songwriting session that resulted in these songs took place shortly after his appearance on the show, approximately 18 to 24 months before he officially joined Big Loud Records. Wallen does not refute the fact that he recorded for Panacea and also signed an artist management agreement.
Regrettably, I entered into both agreements without the assistance of a lawyer, according to Wallen's explanation.
"2 of Us Alone" is an instance of a regrettable song. It features a lackluster musical arrangement and a vocalist who is hardly recognizable in 2024.
Wallen is accompanied by piano and acoustic guitar on the track "Afterglow," which seems to be aimed at fans of soft rock from the early 2000s. On the other hand, the songs "Man of the South" and "Bonfire Jam" seem to target a more mainstream rock audience. If producer Trust decides to promote this set of songs, he may not receive new opportunities in Nashville.
Morgan Wallen has released a new album, but he wants his fans to understand that it is not his next big project. He assures them that he will be going back to the studio in February to work on his next recording.
He expresses discomfort when he listens to these songs.
Joey Moi was in charge of producing this recently released acoustic version of "Spin You Around," and Wallen confirms that he recorded it in Nashville this week. Additionally, Wallen was also responsible for creating the cover art for the song.
In order to contribute back to the community, he has made the choice to give $100,000 from the Morgan Wallen Foundation to support the Volunteer Lawyers & Professionals for the Arts program. This donation aims to assist young musicians who might encounter similar challenges in their careers.
