Do you still recall the unforgettable audition of Scotty McCreery on American Idol? It was apparent from the beginning that he had the potential to win Season 10. This remarkable audition, which was shown on Jan. 26, 2011, remains one of the standout moments in the show's long history.
At the time of his audition for American Idol, McCreery was only 16 years old. The judging panel included Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez, and Steven Tyler from Aerosmith. Despite being tall and having a buzzcut hairstyle, McCreery's standout feature was his mature and deep baritone voice, which ultimately helped him become the winner of his season on Idol.
The contestant from Garner, North Carolina impressed the judges with his charm even before he started singing. Lopez, in particular, took a liking to him right away and engaged in friendly banter. She expressed her hope that he had singing abilities.
During his audition, McCreery showcased his impressive lower range by singing Josh Turner's "Your Man." Tyler was so impressed that he asked McCreery to demonstrate the higher part of his range. In response, McCreery belted out Travis Tritt's "Put Some Drive in Your Country."
"Oh my goodness, keep the matches safe, have intimate relations with a duck and observe what hatches," Tyler exclaimed in astonishment.
After that, the atmosphere in the room became chaotic. The other judges, technicians, and producers were all taken by surprise and confused by the unexpected comment. However, the composed young man calmly responded, saying that it was nothing he hadn't heard before in high school.
All of the judges were confident in their decision to advance McCreery to the competition. Throughout the weeks, he consistently delivered impressive performances. At the age of 17, he emerged as the victor of Season 10 of American Idol on May 25, 2011, making him one of the program's youngest champions ever.
