Do you recall Scotty McCreery's remarkable audition on American Idol? It was evident from the start that he had the potential to win Season 10. The audition, which was broadcasted on January 26, 2011, remains a standout moment in the long-standing history of the renowned singing competition.
At the time of his audition for the Idol judges, McCreery was only 16 years old. The judging panel included Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez, and Steven Tyler from Aerosmith. Despite his young appearance with a slim figure and buzzcut hair, McCreery showcased a remarkable and mature baritone voice that would ultimately make him a standout contestant and lead him to victory in his season of Idol.
The contestant from Garner, N.C. impressed the judges with his charm even before he started singing. Jennifer Lopez, in particular, seemed to take a liking to him right away and engaged in playful conversation with him before expressing her hopes about his singing abilities.
During his audition, McCreery showcased his impressive lower range by singing "Your Man" by Josh Turner. Tyler, impressed by his performance, requested McCreery to demonstrate his higher range. In response, McCreery sang "Put Some Drive in Your Country" by Travis Tritt.
"Oh my goodness, keep some matches for later, have intercourse with a duck and let's see what comes out," Tyler exclaimed in complete surprise.
After that, chaos ensued in the room as the other judges, technicians, and producers were all caught off guard by the unexpected comment. However, the calm and composed young man responded by saying, "It's nothing I haven't heard back in high school, my friend."
All the judges quickly and confidently chose McCreery to advance in the competition. From there, he consistently delivered impressive performances every week. Eventually, at just 17 years old, McCreery emerged as the winner of Season 10 of American Idol on May 25, 2011. This made him one of the program's youngest champions in its history.
