Do you recall Scotty McCreery's amazing audition on 'American Idol'? It was clear from the start that he had a strong chance of winning Season 10. This audition, which was broadcasted on Jan. 26, 2011, remains one of the most unforgettable moments in the long-running reality singing competition.
At the time when McCreery auditioned for the Idol judges, he was only 16 years old. The judges on the panel included Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez, and Steven Tyler from Aerosmith. Despite his young age and his gangly appearance with a buzzcut, McCreery already had a deep and mature baritone voice, which would eventually make him a standout contestant and winner of his season on Idol.
Before he started singing, the contestant from Garner, N.C. impressed the judges with his charm. Jennifer Lopez, in particular, seemed to be immediately taken with him, engaging in playful conversation and expressing her hope that he had a good singing voice.
During his audition, McCreery performed "Your Man" by Josh Turner, showcasing his impressive ability to sing in a lower range. Tyler then requested him to demonstrate his higher vocal range, to which McCreery responded by singing "Put Some Drive in Your Country" by Travis Tritt.
"Oh my goodness, light a match, have intercourse with a duck and wait to see what comes out," Tyler exclaimed, completely surprised.
After that, chaos ensued in the room as the other judges, technicians, and producers were all taken aback by the surprising comment. However, the composed young man calmly responded, saying that it was nothing he hadn't heard before in high school, my brother.
All the judges were unanimous in their decision to advance McCreery to the competition. Throughout the weeks, he consistently delivered impressive performances without wavering. At the young age of 17, McCreery achieved victory on May 25, 2011, in Season 10 of American Idol, making him one of the program's youngest winners ever.
