I was surprised to discover that some commonly consumed foods in the United States are prohibited in other countries. These are not exotic or unfamiliar items, but rather everyday foods that most Americans are familiar with and have likely eaten before. It is interesting to note that these foods are not allowed to be sold in stores in other countries.
Gatorade is
Based on information from the Market Realist website, some versions of the well-liked sports beverage include Yellow 5 and Yellow 6 dyes. These dyes are not allowed for children in Norway and Austria. In the other countries of the European Union (E.U.), these specific types of Gatorade must have a warning label.
Kraft Macaroni and Cheese is a popular
According to Market Realist, the reason why this guilty pleasure that Americans enjoy is prohibited in the UK and other British Commonwealth countries is due to the presence of yellow dyes.
Quick and convenient mashed potatoes that can
Although they may not provide the same level of comfort as traditional mashed potatoes, these alternative options can still satisfy your cravings. However, due to the presence of a preservative called BHA, these mashed potatoes are not available for sale in the UK and Japan, as reported by the Eat This website.
Kellogg's is a well-known brand in the food industry.
Frosted Flakes are considered delicious, but unfortunately, they are not allowed to be sold in the UK, Europe, and Japan. Market Realist states that this ban is due to the presence of BHT, a preservative found in various cereals, cosmetics, and rubber items.
The brand known
A seemingly harmless indulgent treat is generally acceptable, except for Swiss Cake Rolls. These rolls are either prohibited or come with strong cautionary labels depending on the European Union country. The primary reason for this is that they contain food dyes, such as Yellow 5 and Red 40, which are considered harmful to children. Another contributing factor to the restrictions or outright ban is the inclusion of palm oil in these rolls.
Skittles is
Austria, Sweden, and Norway have prohibited the sale of Skittles due to the presence of Yellow 5 and Yellow 6 dyes, which we previously mentioned. In the other countries of the European Union, Skittles are sold with a warning label.
American pork
Pork cuts obtained from pigs raised in the United States frequently involve the use of growth hormones, such as ractopamine, in their farming methods. Interestingly, the US is among a small number of countries worldwide that continue to permit the use of these hormones, as reported by Eat This.
