The former mansion of Conway Twitty, a famous country music icon, located in Nashville, has been saved from being demolished. The current owners had initially planned to tear it down, but they changed their minds after facing public backlash.
Twitty's property in the wealthy Nashville area of Hendersonville, Tennessee, was not only his estate but also home to the well-known tourist attraction called Twitty City. However, after Twitty's death in 1993, the property was bought by Trinity Broadcasting Network and transformed into an entertainment complex. Currently, the site is being used by Mike Huckabee to film his Huckabee show.
The former mansion owned by Conway Twitty was at risk of being demolished due to damage caused by a tornado in December 2023. Frank Amedia, who represents the real estate division of TBN, proposed a plan to the Hendersonville Planning Commission. The plan involved demolishing all the structures on the property, except for the Huckabee Theater, to create space for expanding the studio and constructing facilities for senior living. This proposal received significant attention from the media.
The Board of Mayor and Aldermen initially voted against TBN. After receiving feedback from the public and meeting with Joni Ryles, the daughter of Twitty who opposed the demolition, TBN has now altered its plans. This decision comes after discussions with Amedia as well.
The city's opinion was taken into consideration, prayers were made, and some people were consulted before making a decision about Conway Twitty's house. Despite the additional expenses, it was believed that taking this action was the right thing to do.
The details of how TBN plans to save the Twitty Mansion have not been disclosed yet. However, Amedia has expressed his desire to utilize the facility as a way to pay tribute to the renowned country legend.
