Conway Twitty’s Former Mansion Saved from Demolition: A Victory for Country Music Heritage

  • by

The former mansion of country music legend Conway Twitty, located in the Nashville area, has been saved from being demolished. The current owners had initially planned to demolish the iconic home; however, they changed their decision after facing public opposition.

Twitty's property, located in the wealthy Nashville suburb of Hendersonville, Tennessee, was not only his estate but also the location of his well-liked tourist attraction called Twitty City. However, after Twitty passed away in 1993, the property was purchased by Trinity Broadcasting Network, who transformed it into an entertainment complex. Currently, the property is being used as the filming location for Mike Huckabee's Huckabee show.

The reason why Conway Twitty's home was at risk of being demolished is because a tornado hit the area in December 2023, causing damage to the structural stability of the former Twitty mansion. In response to this, Frank Amedia, who represents TBN's real estate division, presented a proposal to the Hendersonville Planning Commission. The proposal suggested demolishing all the buildings on the property, except for the Huckabee Theater, in order to make room for the planned expansion of the studio and the addition of senior living facilities. This plan received a lot of attention from the media, leading to intense scrutiny.

The Board of Mayor and Aldermen initially voted against TBN. However, TBN has now altered its plans after considering public input and holding a meeting with Joni Ryles, the daughter of Twitty, who had previously expressed opposition to the demolition. This change in plans came after WKRN in Nashville reported on the situation.

The decision to take action regarding Conway Twitty's house was not based on financial concerns, but rather on careful consideration of the city's sentiment. After praying and consulting with others, Amedia and his team concluded that it was the right thing to do, despite the additional expenses it may incur.

TBN has not provided any detailed information about how they plan to save the Twitty Mansion. However, Amedia has expressed his desire to utilize the property as a way to pay tribute to the renowned country legend.
